Chapter 198: The Pain I Finally Understand
Chapter 198: The Pain I Finally Understand
The terrifying sound broke Kevin completely. His eyes snapped open in absolute horror, and he screamed at the top of his lungs, "Please! Don’t kill me! I’ll speak! I’ll tell you everything!"
Matteo didn’t lower the weapon an inch. "Start speaking," he commanded, his voice raw and lethal.
Kevin looked up, his gaze darting frantically from Matteo to Mark, and then to the wall of heavily armed bodyguards surrounding him.
The reality of his situation finally crashed down, and his entire body began to shake violently. He opened his mouth, but his throat was so dry from panic that no words came out. He didn’t even know where to start.
Matteo stared down at him, disappointment flashing briefly through his eyes before it was swallowed by disgust.
"I thought you were my friend. That’s the part I can’t get past. I don’t trust people, Kevin. I never have. But I trusted you enough to let you into my home."
He shook his head.
"I knew you were hiding something. I knew you had your own agenda. But I thought your problem was with me. I never imagined you would drag Adrian into it."
Matteo leaned in closer, the barrel of the gun bruising Kevin’s forehead. "What in the world did he ever do to you to deserve this? You had him kidnapped, and then you sat right here on my sofa, eating my food, acting like you knew nothing, and throwing around your pathetic, fake concern!"
"I’m sorry!" Kevin sobbed, pressing his hands together in a desperate plea. "But Adrian was the reason all of this happened! He humiliated me, Matteo! He treated me like trash from the moment I got here!"
Kevin’s voice grew hysterical as he tried to justify his actions, the words spilling out of breath. "The way he spoke to me at the breakfast table, he insulted me in front of everyone! He has no respect, no boundaries! He’s just a spoiled rat, and he looked down on me like I was nothing. And you—"
Kevin looked at Matteo with a flash of bitter resentment. "You just sat there and let him do it! You never stopped him. You let him humiliate me over and over again, completely defending him just because you spoil him. I couldn’t stand it anymore! I couldn’t just sit back and take it!"
Matteo’s expression didn’t soften for a fraction of a second. He brutally pressed the nose of the gun harder against Kevin’s skull, cutting off his frantic rant. "I don’t give a fuck about your feelings," Matteo hissed. "I don’t care about any of that. All I want is my answer. Speak. Where is Adrian?"
Kevin flinched, his eyes dropping to the floor. The pressure of the gun was suffocating, and his mind was racing in a blind panic. "I didn’t mean for everything to go this far," he stammered, his voice cracking as he began to ramble incoherently. "I was just... I was confused. Things just got out of hand, I swear..."
He threw out a dozen different excuses, stuttering through frantic, contradictory sentences that made absolutely no sense.
He was desperately trying to avoid mentioning Kelly’s name, terrified of dragging his brother down with him. Even in his terror, he was trying to protect Kelly from Matteo’s wrath.
Then he noticed Matteo’s finger tightening on the trigger.
Realizing his excuses were only making things worse, Kevin immediately raised both hands in surrender.
"I’ll take you to him!" he cried out. "I’ll take you there right now, Matteo! Just please don’t shoot me. I’ll lead you straight to him!"
Tony didn’t wait for another word. He stepped forward and brutally yanked Kevin up by his collar. One of the bodyguards moved in, forcing Kevin’s arms behind his back and snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
Without a moment’s delay, the entire security team moved out. They filed into the waiting cars in a disciplined sprint, roaring out of the estate gates with Kevin trapped in the lead vehicle to navigate them straight to the hideout.
Meanwhile, back at the safe house, the tension was suffocating. Kelly paced back and forth before turning to Adrian with a frantic glare.
"What did you say to him?" he demanded. "What the hell did those words mean?"
Adrian lay weak on the bed, his body still fighting the fading effects of the previous drugs, and remained entirely silent. His refusal to speak only made Kelly more paranoid. Sensing that the two words were a dangerous signal, a cold sweat broke out on Kelly’s neck. He couldn’t risk staying there any longer.
"Get up," Kelly barked, his voice laced with sudden panic. "We’re moving. Right now."
He rushed over, roughly untying Adrian’s hands from the bedposts, and threw his clothes onto the mattress. Kelly snatched his pistol from the table, racking the slide and keeping the barrel pointed directly at Adrian’s chest while he frantically threw his passport and cash into a duffel bag with his free hand.
"Start dressing. Move!" Kelly shouted.
Adrian moved slowly, forcing his weak body to cooperate as he pulled on his shirt. Behind his calm expression, his mind was working furiously, searching for a way out. As he reached for his trousers, Kelly turned his back for a brief moment to grab a laptop from the desk.
Adrian seized the split second. He intentionally stumbled sideways, crashing into the discarded first-aid box on the table.
As it rattled, Adrian’s fingers flew into the kit, blindly snatching two of the remaining paralytic syringes. He slid them deep into his pocket just as Kelly snapped his head around.
"Watch it!" Kelly yelled, shoving the gun closer.
Adrian kept his face blank, pulling his jacket over his frame to conceal the stolen needles. "I’m done," he mumbled, his voice hoarse.
"Let’s go. Walk ahead of me," Kelly ordered.
He didn’t bother tying Adrian’s hands again. They were running out of time. Instead, he pressed the cold barrel of his gun into the small of Adrian’s back, forcing his cooperation.
They stepped out of the room and into a long, dimly lit concrete hallway. They walked farther toward the back of the house.
Adrian moved forward with his hands slightly raised, playing the part of the submissive captive to perfection.
Suddenly, a loud ringtone shattered the silence.
Kelly’s phone was vibrating in his pocket.
Assuming it was Kevin calling with an update, his anxiety immediately spiked. His right hand was occupied with the gun pressed against Adrian’s back, while his left hand was burdened with the heavy duffel bag and laptop.
For a split second, his attention wavered.
Desperate to answer, Kelly muttered a curse. He crouched slightly, bending down to drop the bag and laptop onto the floor so he could free up his left hand to grab the phone. In that brief, careless second, the barrel of the gun lowered away from Adrian’s back.
Adrian felt the pressure vanish. It was the only chance he would get.
With a burst of adrenaline that completely overrode his exhaustion, Adrian whipped around in a lethal flash. Before Kelly could even process the movement or raise his arm, Adrian slammed his weight forward.
He ripped one of the paralytic syringes from his pocket and drove the needle deep into the side of Kelly’s neck, slamming the plunger down with all his remaining strength.
Kelly let out a strangled gasp, his eyes widening in shock.
Acting on pure instinct, Adrian lashed out with a hard kick at Kelly’s wrist. The impact knocked the pistol from his hand, sending it skidding across the concrete floor.
Adrian didn’t hesitate. He lunged forward, snatched up the weapon, and quickly retreated several steps, raising the gun and aiming it directly at Kelly.
Kelly snarled, taking one lunging step forward to tackle Adrian, but the high-grade paralytic drug worked with terrifying speed.
The fluid surged through his nervous system, and within seconds, Kelly’s knees buckled. His arms went completely stiff at his sides, his jaw locking up as he crashed heavily onto the floor, completely immobilized and staring up at Adrian in silent, helpless horror.
Adrian stood over him, his chest heaving as he gripped the heavy pistol. He looked down at Kelly’s frozen, wide-eyed face, his expression hardening into something cold and unfamiliar.
"You know, when Matteo told me about the things you and your little gang did to him in the past," Adrian said, his voice low and deadly calm, "I used to wonder just how far you people went."
He tightened his grip on the gun.
"I wondered how much you bullied him. I wondered what it felt like for him to be powerless while you pushed his twin brother down the stairs. I used to ask myself what kind of monsters you had to be to leave scars deep enough to turn him into the ruthless man he is today."
Kelly’s eyes darted frantically, tracking Adrian’s movements, but he couldn’t blink or turn his head.
"But after everything you’ve just done to me," Adrian continued, stepping closer until he was looking straight down into Kelly’s terrified gaze, "I finally understand. I understand what it means to feel completely powerless. And I understand exactly how much rage it takes to want absolute revenge."
A tear of sheer panic rolled down the side of Kelly’s frozen face, his mind screaming for his body to move, but the paralysis kept him locked in place.
"You made my boyfriend who he is today,"
