Chapter 9: Counterattack!
Chapter 9: Counterattack!
[Having arrived at an alien space node, do you wish to return to the present world?]
With my back against the tower wall, the notification sound of the Torch Watch echoed in my mind.
Yu Jing did not go any further into the tower, but turned to look at the dark woodland in front of him.
Suddenly, he took a smoke grenade from his waist and threw it in front of him.
With a soft hissing sound, the smoke spread upwards from his ankles, gradually obscuring Yu Jing's figure.
"Hey, you bastard, I'm leaving, aren't you going to see me off?"
After shouting his harsh words, Yu Jing's figure was completely engulfed by the rising smoke.
In the dense forest near the tower, the werewolf still lurked in the bushes. Having successfully struck, it was in no hurry. The virus on its claws had already seeped into the wound of its prey. Based on past experience, all it needed to do next was wait.
Before long, the prey will be completely incapacitated.
It learned its lesson the hard way not long ago, so it absolutely cannot be hasty this time...
Suddenly, as if sensing something, the werewolf looked up and saw that the smoke rising outside the tower was rippling in layers.
An unusual energy movement was detected.
Its already ferocious face twisted even more violently, unable to bear it any longer, and it charged forward, crushing the grass and mud with all four legs.
The wounds on his body tormented him day and night; he had to avenge this!
The distance of a dozen meters was covered in an instant. A large cloud of smoke obscured the werewolf's vision, but its pace did not slow down at all.
It had long understood the effects of these smokes.
It has no lethality and will not affect its ability to track prey.
With a twitch of its nostrils, it caught the scent that drove it mad with hatred. Without hesitation, it pounced into the tower, heading straight for the shadowy human figure that appeared ahead. Its sharp claws pierced the chest, tearing the creature apart as easily as ripping a piece of cloth.
Having avenged his great grudge, the werewolf could no longer suppress his bloodthirsty beastly nature.
It stretches out its neck, opens its blood-red maw, and bites the prey's head, intending to chew its flesh and bones to pieces and devour it.
However, what they tasted between the sharp teeth was the astringent smell of withered grass and dry mud, not the sweet blood they had imagined.
Rushing forward through the smoke, the werewolf, whose vision had returned to normal, instinctively checked his prey.
What they finally saw was a mangled straw doll, with a bloodstained hoodie and belt hanging below its broken neck.
How could this happen?
Squeezing out the last vestige of reason from its bloodthirsty beastly nature, the werewolf barely managed to turn its brain around.
Unfortunately, before it could figure it out, the sound of the trigger being pulled reached its erect ears first.
boom!boom!
The monster's body, covered in coarse, black fur, trembled repeatedly.
The last thing to appear in the blood-red vision was a shirtless young man, his hands holding the gun still trembling, but there was no fear on his face. His eyes were full of excitement and ferocity, as if he were the monster hunting its prey!
Yu Jing saw it all very clearly: the silver bullet, designed to target negative energy monsters, pierced the werewolf's skull.
The hideous monster was close at hand, blood and bits of bone and flesh flying everywhere.
Such a scenario would be enough to cause most people to panic, or even mentally freeze, leaving them unable to respond.
Yu Jing considered himself a rather timid person who couldn't stand bloody scenes. In his previous life, he even had to watch horror movies with someone, for fear of not being able to sleep at night.
But just as I stepped into the tower and opened the passage back to the real world, it was then deliberately paused.
He saw his true self.
Perhaps it's because I traveled through time again after traveling through time.
Being a stranger in a foreign land, he was no less unfamiliar with the so-called "real world" than with this foreign land.
With no way back and no worries, there are no taboos.
Yu Jing didn't want to leave; he wanted to make this monster that "dared" to ambush him pay a bloody price!
Even if doing so is extremely risky.
So he quickly took off his clothes and belt and put them on the scarecrow to make bait.
Use the same method the monster used to attack him to ambush them again!
This approach proved highly effective; at close range, there was no need to worry about accuracy, and the silver bullets' lethality did not disappoint him.
The monster before him was no different from an NPC in a game. He didn't hesitate for even a millisecond when he fired the gun, and he felt no disgust when he saw the bloody wound. All he felt was the intense pleasure of seeking revenge and hunting monsters.
Yes, the trembling of the hands holding the gun was not out of fear, but out of excitement!
He seems to have been born this way.
The monster's death made him feel the vibrancy of life more than ever before.
Taking a deep breath to calm his turbulent emotions, Yu Jing put on his tattered clothes while turning his gaze to the monster's corpse.
It wasn't that he wanted to admire the prey, but rather that he noticed a grayish-white flame emerging from the chest of the dead werewolf, which immediately reminded him of the bluish-gray flame that appeared when the Torch Watch was plundering the gate in a critical charging state.
Subconsciously reaching out his left hand, the gray-white flames on the werewolf's chest immediately seemed to be drawn, transforming into several streams of light that disappeared into the torch watch. Immediately afterwards, a mechanical notification sound appeared in Yu Jing's mind:
[Beast-Transformed Priest Soulfire detected and stored in the Talents page. Activating this function allows for absorption or transformation.]
Beast-like Priest?
Is it actually a monster that has mutated from a human?
Yu Jing glanced at the monster but couldn't make out any human features. He couldn't help but recall the hairy corpse he had seen in the clinic. Then he looked down at the wound on his chest, his lips twitched, and he had a vague sense of foreboding.
He hurriedly checked the status bar of the Torch Watch.
Sure enough, the health bar of the fluorescent green figure walking in the center of the screen dropped by nearly a quarter.
The sanity value in the upper left corner has dropped to 085/100 and is still decreasing.
What bothered him most was that the "Full of Food" status that he had when he first arrived had disappeared from the status bar at the little figure's feet, and it had been replaced by a negative status with a light red border: "Beast Infection (Mild)"!
Focus your attention, and detailed information will emerge.
【Beast Infection (Mild)】The beast virus will continuously erode the infected person's body and sanity over time, transforming them into a crazed beast monster. The current infection progress is: 8% (mild).
After reading the explanation given by the watch, Yu Jing couldn't help but feel a chill in his heart.
Despite being extra careful in previous battles, getting injured is still inevitable when facing a monster of this level.
Fortunately, it is currently only a mild infection and has not yet affected his mobility.
Once you return to the real world and complete the beginner trial to activate all the watch's functions, especially the talent page, you might find a solution. At the very least, you can go to the hospital and get a few rabies shots.
It's time to go!
After sheathing his revolver, Yu Jing took one last look at the dilapidated tower.
This short trip allowed him to see his true self.
He had a strong feeling that he would come back, and that he would not be in such a sorry state as he was now.
[Extraterrestrial node detected. Portal open!]
As the Torch Watch was reactivated, Yu Jing's figure gradually became ethereal.
