Chapter 274: Explosive Tier 2 Battle

Darius immediately thrust both hands outward and hundreds of black spikes erupted around him like a blooming death flower.

They shot toward West from every direction but West suddenly disappeared, leaving the spikes to pierce through nothing.

A footprint glowed behind Darius and then...

BAMMM!

CRACK~

West’s fist slammed into the back of Darius’ skull hard enough to create a sonic boom.

Darius shot downward like a meteor, crashing through the side of the skyscraper halfway down.

West followed again relentlessly.

The Void Fang Predator transformation was terrifyingly fast even at the first branch..

Darius was well aware now that he had severely underestimated West but that didn’t mean he was about to let a tier 1 awakener take him down.

Darius burst back out of the building in fury. "ENOUGH!"

The night sky darkened further as gigantic black spikes erupted outward across the side of the skyscraper like a spreading plague.

Entire sections of the building were skewered.

West immediately began leaping across glowing footprints to evade while chunks of debris exploded around him.

Darius appeared above him instantly with a massive spike-hammer formed around his arm.

He swung downward and West crossed both arms in response.

BOOOOOOOOM!

The impact sent West hurtling downward across the city.

He crashed through two buildings before skidding across an empty highway.

Cars flipped, streetlights exploded and the ground tore apart beneath him for nearly a hundred meters causing dust to rise everywhere.

The glowing footprints scattered across the surroundings had dimmed which meant they were currently in cooldown. This was why West defended against Darius’ attack.

Darius descended slowly from above with a murderous look as his body partially transformed into a giant armored form covered in black protrusions and moving spikes.

"You shouldn’t have been too cocky, little rookie. My experience outmatches yours," Darius growled.

"Now you die."

The dust slowly parted as West stood up and cracked his neck slightly.

Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth but somehow, he looked even more excited now.

"You know..." he wiped the blood casually. "This is actually pretty fun."

Darius’ expression darkened and then suddenly, the entire highway beneath West transformed.

Dark spikes erupted from below without warning.

West reacted instantly by jumping into the air but they kept shooting higher until several spikes pierced straight through his shoulder and side in mid air.

Darius grinned savagely as West’s blood splattered all over the spikes.

"Got careless."

He immediately shot forward to finish it but West suddenly opened his mouth and let out a scream...

A blue-white blast of concentrated energy shot out of his mouth and slammed straight into Darius’s chest.

Boom!

The rocks protruding from Darius instantly got obliterated as he was sent flying across the air with a scalding mark on his chest.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Ughhhh!"

He smashed straight through multiple stores up ahead, disappearing into the distance.

West grabbed one of the spikes impaling him and snapped it off like breaking a twig before slowly pulling the remaining spike from his own body.

Blood dripped out for a bit before the wound began healing.

Darius leapt straight out of the rubble that had descended all around him after the blast and spat out a mouthful of blood while more dripped from a giant wound on his chest.

He noticed West’s body healing itself and stared in disbelief. "...Regeneration?"

West chuckled because even he was surprised when he realized his Void Fang Predator could regenerate. Although, it only happened when he was in this form... and it was much slower than the chalice.

"Oh no," West muttered as he tossed the broken spike aside. "It gets worse."

The glowing markings across his body intensified as West’s mouth opened slightly again.

A deep blue glow formed within causing the air on Darius’ body to rise as he moved instantly.

BOOOOOOOOM!

Another massive beam-like blast erupted from West’s mouth and vaporized the entire highway section behind Darius.

Buildings in the distance exploded apart from the residual force, lighting the night sky blue.

Darius barely avoided it this time but fortunately for him, he did.

He appeared atop a nearby building breathing harder now. "What the hell are you?"

West slowly stepped forward across the ruined highway below while the footprints suspended in the air across the vicinity began to light up again.

"You know..." West tilted his head. "Since I found out about her death, I wondered what kind of monster killed my sister."

His glowing eyes lifted slowly. "What kind of monster kills a child... an innocent four year old..."

More footprints appeared across the surroundings, littering the streets and even the skyscrapers around but centering the most around Darius.

"...I’m no saint but the world is better off without people like you," West vanished again.

Darius barely raised both arms before West’s kick slammed into him and blasted him across the skyline.

This time Darius crashed into another skyscraper entirely.

Windows exploded across twenty floors and West followed without pause, vanished and reappearing above another footprint.

Meanwhile, Aurethia slowly rose from the rubble of the destroyed building she had been blasted through earlier.

Dust fell from her silver armor while her glowing saber vibrated softly.

She looked toward the distant explosions lighting up the skyline and her eyes narrowed slightly.

"Master is enjoying himself too much... he doesn’t even want me interfering..."

BOOOOOOOOM!

Another explosion shook the city followed by Darius bursting from the building again covered fully in blood now.

His rage had reached a terrifying level.

"You think this changes anything?!" he roared.

"You think killing me brings your sister back?!"

West stopped mid-air atop a glowing footprint while the wind moved around him slowly.

"No," he answered quietly as his glowing eyes locked onto Darius.

"But it’ll make me feel better. This is barely one of the many things I intend to do to you,"

Minutes later, explosions echoed endlessly across the skyline while skyscrapers trembled from the aftershocks of two monsters colliding.

Entire roads below had already been evacuated in panic as civilians fled screaming through the streets.

The night sky looked fractured as dark spikes pierced buildings while blue flashes streaked through the air.

Far away, reporters and news channels were already mobilizing with their news vans.

Law enforcement droned in and every organization nearby had detected the catastrophic energy fluctuations spreading through the district.

However, before any of them could get close, Aurethia appeared.

Her glowing saber vibrated softly in her grasp while she stood atop a collapsing building edge.

West’s orders through the summon link had been simple... deter everyone.

He couldn’t let anyone discover that this fight involved him.

A police convoy sped toward the district byt suddenly stopped when a glowing slash carved across the highway directly before them, leaving behind a molten trench nearly thirty feet deep.

The officers paused instantly.

Meanwhile, above, a news helicopter attempted to close in.

Aurethia looked upward and swung once.

A pressure wave sliced through the air before the helicopter instantly lost control and spiraled backward in panic.

She wasn’t killing anyone but she was making the message crystal clear... stay away.

Back at the battlefield...

BOOOOOOOOM!

Darius slammed both palms downward and the skyscraper beside them trembled violently.

CRAAAAAAACK~

The entire structure split in half due to spikes ripping through the center.

Steel beams tore apart and glass exploded everywhere as the upper half of the skyscraper slowly tilted before it started collapsing directly toward West.

The sight was apocalyptic with thousands of tons of metal and concrete descending toward the streets below.

West’s glowing eyes widened slightly while Darius laughed savagely.

"Once again..." the Tier 2 awakened spread his arms slightly. "...just more collateral damage."

West was going to ignore the crashing half of the skyscraper and dash towards safety when he heard a baby crying...

His eyes shifted downward instantly and he spotted a mother below screaming while clutching her infant tightly.

There wasn’t enough time for them to escape the falling skyscraper’s range even she started running at top speed.

The collapsing skyscraper shadow completely consumed their figures.

And in that moment... West saw it happening again...

A four year old girl with a spike through a tiny body... and his mother screaming.

His body moved before his mind could catch up as glowing blue footprints suddenly exploded across the battlefield.

Over fifty glowing footprints spread out while West vanished and reappeared across the vicinity.

Again... and again... and again...

To ordinary eyes, it looked like dozens of Wests appearing simultaneously across the collapsing district.

He grabbed civilians mid-fall, pulled people from crushed vehicles and caught office workers falling from shattered floors...

He moved so absurdly fast that blue afterimages filled the air.

The crying mother suddenly felt an arm around her waist and then found herself hundreds of meters away instantly with her baby safe in her arms.

West had already disappeared again before she could even scream properly.

However, while all this was happening, Darius made his move.

"Got you."

Dark spikes erupted beneath West unexpectedly at the exact moment he appeared above a footprint.

SHLKKK~

Two pierced his chest while another tore through his abdomen.

West’s body jerked violently as the spikes lodged deeply into his body, causing him to puke blood.

"Gurrrghhhhh!"

In the next instant, he was yanked downward violently by the spikes.
