Chapter 1209: Doesn’t Want Excessive Intimacy with Richard Shaw
Chapter 1209: Doesn’t Want Excessive Intimacy with Richard Shaw
After Richard Shaw left the hospital, Leah woke up soon after. Her slumber wasn’t actually that deep; she was pretending to sleep. Firstly, she didn’t want to put on a fake act or have too much intimacy with Richard Shaw, and secondly, she wanted to appear weak to lull his vigilance.
Over the past two days, she had thought it through clearly. Becoming strangers was indeed more suitable than coming together again. Maybe she liked the current Richard Shaw after losing her memory, but the old wounds were still there, and there was the injustice against her parents. Leaving was the best choice; she didn’t retaliate because revenge had reached its limit.
No matter what, she always remembered that it was the old lady who took care of her as she grew up. Though Griffith Squire dismissed this, claiming that if it weren’t for the Shaw Family’s interference, he might have taken her to care for her much earlier.
Some facts couldn’t be changed. Thinking back, the old lady was still healthy despite the passage of years, which was a relief.
Finally, she thought of Casimir Shaw. When the child was born, she hadn’t had a chance to see him. She missed his childhood and the time to nurture motherly affection. Fortunately, over the past few years of amnesia, their relationship was still quite good.
Leah had been thinking so much these past two days that her head hurt. In the end, she decided to leave him in the Shaw Family; staying with Richard Shaw was better than being with her. For her child, she wouldn’t lay a hand on Richard Shaw nor do anything against the Shaw Family.
It’s just that she wouldn’t stay any longer. While Leah was feeling lost and sorrowful, Cornelius Turner knocked on the door and came in, speaking quietly: "Miss, Richard Shaw went to the Military District and took Dr. Liao with him. Your guess was spot on. When Luna Lawrence escaped from the mental hospital, this Dr. Liao was reportedly conducting a research project there, and it’s no surprise that he was the one who got her out."
Leah nodded, a chill running through her heart. Luckily she was cautious and brought Cornelius with her to the hospital; otherwise, while she was unconscious, she couldn’t imagine what the doctor might have done. Moreover, her headaches were also related to his hypnosis.
This guy was ruthless, likely targeting Richard Shaw. After all, he retrieved Richard Shaw’s "white moonlight."
"Where is Luna Lawrence now? Can we trace her?" Leah asked, her voice hoarse.
"Luna Lawrence has been out for too long; she probably changed her identity. Tracking her is quite difficult."
Leah nodded. Since that was the case, Dr. Liao’s identity was questionable. Now that Dr. Liao was brought to the Military District by Richard Shaw, if he doesn’t die, he’ll be skinned. Can Luna Lawrence still sit idly?
Leah squinted her almond-shaped eyes, pondering slightly, then said, "Make arrangements; we’ll leave tonight."
Cornelius was a bit surprised, quickly nodding and going out to organize. Nowadays, he’s guarding the hospital alongside Military District personnel every day, and although they don’t interfere with each other, there’s an intangible pressure.
As soon as Cornelius went out, a nurse came in to change the IV bottle.
Leah glanced at her, noticed she was wearing a mask, dressed in a nurse’s uniform, and without thinking much, said lightly, "No need to replace the medicine."
Her hand was swollen from the needles, and the medication was ineffective; after the infusion, she just felt groggy.
The nurse kept her head down, bangs covering her eyes, her voice lowered as she said, "Miss Squire, this is the last bottle for today, it’ll be done in twenty minutes."
The nurse stepped forward to insert the needle, Leah’s eyes flashed, and she said calmly, "The nurse who came this morning wasn’t you."
"It was our head nurse this morning; she had an emergency event, so she asked me to come and administer the injection for Miss Squire." The young nurse spoke as she hung up the IV bottle, tested the needle, and held Leah’s hand, ready to inject.
She focused overly as she was about to inject, a gleam of excitement flashed in her eyes, her hand suddenly held in place by someone.
Leah reversed and held her wrist, sneering, "Eight years have passed, won’t you at least greet me, Luna Lawrence?"
Luna Lawrence, realizing her tight disguise couldn’t hide her identity, showed ferocity in her eyes and tried vehemently to plunge the needle into Leah’s wrist.
Seeing she hadn’t given up, Leah showed no mercy, forcibly twisting her wrist and kicking her away, coldly saying, "If I were you, I’d hide and never appear again; it’s foolishness."
Luna Lawrence, kicked to the ground, got up and pulled a knife out from the nurse’s uniform, rushing over and hoarsely shouted, "Crystal Landon, go to hell."
The commotion in the ward quickly alarmed the guards outside; they rushed in, stunned to witness the nurse who came to administer medication had gone mad and was attempting to stab Leah with a knife. Before they could intervene, Leah disarmed her and slashed Luna Lawrence’s wrist, blood gushing.
Only then did everyone come to their senses, rushing forward to apprehend the maddened nurse.
In her struggle, Luna Lawrence’s hair came loose, her mask fell off, revealing a swollen, aged face. Over the years, the mental hospital meds had taken their toll, tormenting her day and night, making her look older than someone in their forties despite being in her twenties.
"I’ll kill you. Kill you." Luna Lawrence’s eyes were intense red, panting heavily, roaring like a trapped beast.
Leah initially thought she’d hate this woman since her marriage with Richard Shaw failed, mostly due to this woman. However, seeing her now aged and deranged appearance, the resentment inside her suddenly vanished.
She would never become someone so unrecognizable as Luna Lawrence because of a man.
Leah spun the fruit knife in her hand, stooped down, stared at her, and coldly said, "Even ten of you couldn’t kill me."
She tossed the fruit knife onto the door casually and said indifferently, "This IV has been tampered with, along with this knife, as evidence of her attempt to intentionally harm me. Take her away."
The guards left in the hospital were Richard Shaw’s squad; upon hearing this, they detained Luna Lawrence, calling the police, gathering evidence, and escorting her away.
Luna Lawrence, realizing she hadn’t succeeded in killing Crystal Landon, screamed madly, throwing the hospital into chaos immediately.
Cornelius seized the chaos to come back, saying quietly, "Miss, it’s a good time to leave now; we don’t have to wait until tonight."
Leah nodded, catching Luna Lawrence before leaving could be considered a resolution of a long-held grudge.
Leah picked up her phone, saw it suddenly ringing with Richard Shaw’s number displayed, her bright almond-shaped eyes slightly clouded, and she took a deep breath, quietly saying, "Let’s go."
When Richard Shaw arrived at the hospital, all he saw was a deranged Luna Lawrence and the guards in the ward tied up, his face changed drastically, seeing that Leah and Cornelius and the others had disappeared, he clenched his five fingers tightly, veins on his hand bulging, his face pale, saying deeply, "Find them."
