Chapter 40 Watermelon
Chapter 40 Watermelon
Qi, the headhunter, smashed Cheng Lihua's glasses with the butt of his rifle. She stumbled and fell to the ground, forcing a smile as she pleaded, "Misunderstanding, comrade, I...I didn't know. I only heard the sound..."
Seeing her hands stained with Scientist Ye's blood, Headhunter Qi felt nauseous and wanted to vomit. He didn't want to listen to any more of her excuses. He grabbed Cheng Lihua by the hair and threw her down the stairs.
Immediately afterwards, Da Feng climbed up the stairs, and upon seeing Ye Wenjie's appearance, tears immediately streamed down her face.
"Stop crying!" Headhunter Qi glared. "Get Scientist Ye out of here and take him to the hospital!"
Da Feng responded with a sob, ignoring the bloodstains, and carried Ye Wenjie on her back, following her downstairs step by step, running towards the town hospital.
As soon as Ye Wenjie left, the remaining villagers of Qijiatun surrounded Cheng Lihua and rained blows upon her.
Cheng Lihua covered her head and curled up in the corner, only her back was exposed as she was being beaten.
Even so, she was still so dizzy and disoriented from the beating that she almost fainted.
Just then, a whistle suddenly sounded outside, and two policemen from the town rushed over as soon as they received the news.
Beep--beep---
The older police officers blew their whistles and squeezed into the crowd, using their bodies to separate the out-of-control Qijiatun villagers from Cheng Lihua.
The younger officers, unfamiliar with this scene, stood nervously beside the older officers, batons in hand.
"master."
The young police officer asked in a low voice, "Should we just leave it at that?"
The veteran police officer glared at him and said, "Our duty is to protect the safety of the people. What do you mean, 'leave it alone'?"
As if grasping at a straw, Cheng Lihua turned around and hugged the old police officer's leg, wailing, "Comrade, save me, they're going to beat me to death."
Headhunter Qi couldn't take it anymore. He pointed at Cheng Lihua and cursed, "You shameless bastard! You beat Scientist Ye up like that, and you still have the nerve to ask someone to save you? Officer, this old bastard is no good. Just leave this alone and listen to the junior officer. Let us handle this ourselves!"
"Nonsense!"
The veteran officer retorted, "He's guilty, and he should be tried in court, not by you! If everyone wanted to resort to vigilante justice, this country would be in chaos!"
"Officer," Headhunter Qi said, "Every wrong has its perpetrator, every debt its debtor. Even a three-year-old knows that. Oh, you mean she beat Scientist Ye like that, and all she has to do is sit in jail for a few days and it's all over?"
The old police officer shook his head, about to explain the meaning of the law to the villagers, when Cheng Lihua suddenly spoke up from behind him, "So what if it is? Only the court can judge my actions. You are not qualified. You have no idea what that bitch Ye Wenjie has done. She is a traitor, a traitor to all of humanity! I am judging her on behalf of the people!"
Her provocation further enraged the villagers, who erupted in a cacophony of curses. Qi the Headhunter suddenly sniffed and spat at Cheng Lihua. Cheng Lihua dodged, and the thick, sticky snot landed on the old police officer's uniform.
The young police officer beside him was completely terrified.
Especially the old hunting rifle that Headhunter Qi carried on his back.
The wooden sticks in their hands alone might not be enough to scare people away.
The old police officer wasn't angry. He wiped away the filth with a towel he carried with him, then turned to Cheng Lihua and said, "Don't go too far."
Cheng Lihua showed no restraint whatsoever.
Having worked in the military control institute and the legal system for so many years, she still has some acquaintances.
Ye Wenjie has a bad character and a criminal record. At most, she will only get a reprimand and have to write a letter of repentance.
The two police officers naturally felt the need to protect the vulnerable, which emboldened her.
"Officer, speaking is a right I'm entitled to by law, and you have no right to deprive me of that right. And you all..."
Cheng Lihua pointed at Qi the headhunter and the villagers behind him, saying, "You're all villagers from around here, right? I've memorized your faces. After I get out of court, you, you, you, and you—none of you will escape. You'll all pay the price for your brutal behavior today!"
"Damn it!"
Some villagers couldn't hold back any longer and rushed up to hit Cheng Lihua. With a snap, a pair of silver bracelets were fastened onto the villagers' hands.
The old policeman raised his wooden baton and shouted, "Don't go any further! Or I'll handcuff them all!"
The villagers have been honest and simple all their lives. Although they have their grievances, they are still somewhat intimidated when faced with the state's violent institutions.
The pair of silver bracelets suppressed everyone's indignation. Everyone stared coldly at the old police officer and Cheng Lihua. Cheng Lihua wanted to say something more, but the old police officer suddenly turned around and stuffed the towel that had been used to wipe her nose into Cheng Lihua's mouth.
"Shut up, you too."
He then skillfully handcuffed her hands behind her back.
"Xiao Wang, clear the way ahead."
The older officer kicked the bewildered younger officer in the backside, and only then did the younger officer belatedly start to move.
He walked ahead, parting the crowd from Qijiatun with his body. The glares from the Qijiatun villagers were so intense they felt like they could tear the flesh off his face.
"Comrade, what should we do?" Headhunter Qi asked in a low voice to Li Youyu, who was standing at the back of the crowd. He hadn't said a word since entering the room.
With a gloomy face, Li Youyu walked to Qi the Hunter, took the fully loaded hunting rifle from his shoulder, and, under the watchful eyes of dozens of men, women, and children in Qijiatun, raised the gun and walked into the night.
"Master, it has to be you. You remained calm and upright in the face of danger."
"Stop talking nonsense. As long as you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear."
The three people walking towards the police station were completely unaware of what was happening and were still chatting casually.
boom!
Suddenly, the sound of gunpowder exploding rang out behind me.
Cheng Lihua, who was following behind the two, suddenly collapsed to her knees.
The old police officer turned around and saw that her calf had been smashed open, and blood was gushing out.
Not far away, a young man held a smoking hunting rifle, looking menacing.
"What do you think you're doing? Are you crazy?!"
The veteran police officer stood in front of Li Youyu's gun, angrily shouting, "Kid, you're still young. His crimes should be judged by the law. Don't ruin your future for her!"
The veteran police officer already knew what had happened, and he had been helping to find Ye Wenjie's whereabouts.
He knew Cheng Lihua was no good, and he loathed her.
However, he had his own stance, and he didn't want this young man in the prime of his life to fall into the abyss for the sake of such a scoundrel as Cheng Lihua.
Cheng Lihua was startled by Li Youyu's crazy behavior. While the old police officer was talking to him, she lay down on the ground and crawled like a maggot to safety.
The old police officer put his hands behind his back and frantically urged his apprentice to get moving and take Cheng Lihua away.
But in that instant, Li Youyu rested the shotgun on the old policeman's shoulder, and using his support, pulled the trigger towards Cheng Lihua on the ground.
boom!
boom!boom!
After three gunshots, Cheng Lihua's head exploded like a watermelon.
"you!"
The old policeman was so angry he couldn't speak, his voice trembling as he said, "Do you know what you've done?!"
